Celtic reported talks over new deal for mainstay will be music to the ears of fans

COMMENT

Celtic supporters will be thrilled to hear that the club is working on a deal to keep stand-out defender Kristoffer Ajer at the club for years to come.

The Daily Record are reporting that the Hoops are ‘close’ to agreeing a deal that will keep the 19-year-old at Celtic Park for years to come.

The player still has two years left on his current contract but Brendan Rodgers and the Hoops staff are looking to keep the player tied down at the Hoops for years to come.

As centre-back has been a problem at the Hoops in recent times, with the likes of Dedryck Boyata and Jozo Simunovic not being reliable enough, the emergence of Ajer has been one of the highlights of the season for the Hoops.

The Norwegian has been a revelation since he became a first-team mainstay in the side in December, following the Hoops’ 4-0 loss to Hearts.

His performances are all the more impressive when you consider that he hasn’t had a regular centre-back partner since becoming a first-team regular, playing at times with Simunovic, Boyata, Jack Hendry and even most recently Mikael Lustig.

If the new contract is agreed Ajer can become a mainstay of the Hoops side for years to come, as he is currently the best centre-back at the Scottish champions and can only get better.
