Potter delivers two-word verdict to friends on taking over at Everton as pundit issues ‘big’ claim

Brighton manager Graham Potter has rejected an approach from Everton as the club is “not an attractive proposition”.

That is the view of former Spurs and England number one Paul Robinson, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the possibility of the 46-year-old succeeding Rafael Benitez on Merseyside.

On Sunday (16 January), Everton confirmed the dismissal of Benitez after a dismal 2-1 defeat to Norwich City.

Football Insider reported on Monday (17 January) that they were sounding out Brighton boss Graham Potter.

But a source has updated today to tell Football Insider that Potter has told friends there is “no chance” of him quitting the Seagulls for the Merseysiders.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his thoughts on Potter, Robinson is not surprised by that stance:

He said: “I think Everton would struggle to get Potter, I really do.

“He likes to be in control of a football club. He wants things done in a certain way with a certain philosophy from the academy, to the first team, to the recruitment. At a club like Everton I do not think he would have that.

“Yes, they are a bigger club than Brighton but look where they are. They are a lot worse off.

“The big question for Graham Potter is, will a better job come around than Everton?

“There’s a lot to deal with there. There is a lot of work to do. Would he see that as an attractive proposition?

“It’d be a big coup if they get him but I think he’d rather wait for a top six job. He is quite often linked with the top six when there is a vacancy.

“Everton are just not an attractive proposition at the moment.”

In other news, a pundit is ‘amazed’ by what the Everton board did before Benitez was sacked.
