Premier League boss states what Tottenham are competing for this season

By Harvey Byrne

Southampton boss Claude Puel has stated that Tottenham are a “great” team and that they are still competing for the Premier League title.

The French manager is preparing to welcome the north London club to St Mary’s Stadium on Wednesday evening for the Premier League clash.

It will be a fiercely contested battle between fifth place and eighth and Puel believes that Spurs are a very good team, who are still competing for the top crown.

“It’s a good thing to play good football and it will be important and interesting with our fans to play a good game, with a good result,” said Puel, as quoted by the official Tottenham website. “Against Tottenham, I think it is a good day for this.

“It’s a team like us, who like to play good football, with possession, quality and technical players. They have a good spirit.

“Of course, they are a great team and they play for first place in the table, but we saw good things against Bournemouth – on the spontaneity, on the quality, and I hope we will stay with this spirit and these good intentions in the last third.”

Tottenham are currently 13 points from league leaders Chelsea, who have won their last 12 Premier League fixtures.

It doesn’t look likely that Spurs can still win the title, but everyone in football will know that anything can happen.

Tottenham have the right foundations to go on a good run themselves with the second best defence in the league, which has seen them lose just twice this season.

However, goals have so far let them down with the worst goals for tally out of the top five teams.

They will be eager to amend the stat for the second half of the campaign, while Southampton will provide a stern test on Wednesday with the third best defensive record in the league.
