Premier League free agents: Every player out of contract at the end of the season

The Premier League is one of the most active leagues in the world for player transfers, but with 78 players out of contract at the end of the 2025-26 season, there are some bargains coming onto the market soon.

The top five most valuable commercial Premier League clubs might not struggle to pay huge sums for new signings but for the rest of England’s top flight, shopping for discount signings is essential.

This is more important than ever after it was revealed that Manchester City’s legal case has reduced the overall amount of money available to Premier League clubs.

Pep Guardiola will say goodbye to several players in the summer if contracts aren’t extended, which will help them reduce their wage bill. Manchester City rank highest in the Premier League’s top five wage bill and could stand to shed some expenditure.

Every Premier League club – bar two – has contracts expiring at the end of the season, while Sunderland have nine players at risk of leaving on free transfers in 2026.

Chelsea

For all the criticism of Chelsea‘s transfer policy and money spent since Todd Boehly bought the club in 2022, the Blues don’t have any players out of contract at the end of the season.

Crystal Palace

Marc Guehi

Liverpool were ever so close to signing Marc Guehi in the summer transfer window before Crystal Palace refused to sanction his sale when a replacement couldn’t be signed. There is a list of five centre-backs Liverpool could sign in January, but Guehi would be the ideal choice.

Should the Englishman make the move to Anfield, he would also stand to make a lot more than the £62,500 he earns at Selhurst Park.

Ibrahima Konate

Real Madrid’s hierarchy is confident of signing Ibrahima Konate for free when his contract expires after multiple failed contract extension efforts from Liverpool. Liverpool could sign Guehi to replace Konate but they will need to sign another central defender after failing to replace Jarell Quansah in the summer after his move to Bayer Leverkusen.

Andrew Robertson

Liverpool were willing to sell Andy Robertson to Atletico Madrid in the summer before a deal fell through. They have since made Robertson vice-captain and now Liverpool are exploring offering Robertson a new contract which would represent a major U-turn on his fortunes at Anfield.

Freddie Woodman (club option)

Rhys Williams

Manchester City

Bernardo Silva

One of the most successful midfielders in Premier League history, Bernardo Silva could join Jose Mourinho at Benfica when his £375,000 per week contract expires at the end of the season.

The last two years have not gone to plan for Silva and Man City. Still, after six Premier League titles, seven domestic cups and a Champions League winners’ medal, the Portuguese midfielder will leave England as one of the most decorated players in English football history.

John Stones

John Stones has been slammed by Man City fans recently as his form has not been particularly good, but had injuries not wrecked his time at the Etihad, he would have gone down as one of the most gifted English centre-backs of all time.

Stefan Ortega

Marcus Bettinelli

Manchester United

Harry Maguire

Once the most expensive centre-back in football history, Harry Maguire came under scrutiny for interfering with the Premier League multi-ball system, but he will likely soon leave Manchester United, with his contract’s expiry fast approaching.

Casemiro

Casemiro arrived in the Premier League with a reputation for being one of the most unforgiving defensive midfielders, but has battled to cope with the intensity of the game in England at this stage of his career.

Casemiro became the first-ever Man United player to score and be sent off in the first half of a game in the Premier League era and has essentially guaranteed he will leave Old Trafford when his contract expires.

Tyrell Malacia

Kieran Trippier

Kieran Trippier was superb against Barcelona despite Tottenham losing 2-0 courtesy of a superb brace from Marcus Rashford. The English right back will be very difficult for Newcastle United to replace if he does leave at the end of the season.

Jamaal Lascelles

Jamaal Lascelles suffered the worst ACL injury in Premier League history and so his place on this list is particularly sad. Had he not suffered the injury in 2024, things might have gone a lot differently.
