Southampton are lining up a £10million bid for Barcelona star Cristian Tello, according to a report.
Italian website Calcio Mercato claim that Tello, who spent last season on-loan at Fiorentina, has also been the subject of interest from Tottenham and talks were held with the Londoners earlier this month.
Fiorentina’s failure to lure the winger to the Stadio Artemio Franchi permanently led to Tello’s agent Joseph Maria Orotbig flying tonNorth London to discuss a potential move.
However, The Sun are now reporting that Spurs’ rivals Southampton could now be heading to the St. Mary’s Stadium as Claude Puel ponders a move for the Spanish international.
The Fiorentina loanee spent the second half of last season at La Viola, making 15 appearances for manager Paulo Sousa and scored two goals.
The 24-year-old has also had a loan spell with Porto, where he scored 10 goals in 57 matches.
Tello, who has two years remaining on his Barcelona contract, had a promising start to his Camp Nou career but it never fully blossomed into an extended spell in the team for the Spanish champions.
Spurs are looking for Champions League quality after qualifying for only the second time. Tello has made 21 career appearances in the European competition, as well as scoring six goals.
Although he may lost out to the Saints for Tello, manager Mauricio Pochettino has raided his old side for combative midfielder Victor Wanyama, while Vincent Janssen has put pen to paper at White Hart Lane in an £17million deal.
In other Tottenham news, right-back Kieran Tripper has had this to say about his future.
