'Pressure is on' - Exclusive: Phillips believes West Ham board frustrated with summer signing
Kevin Phillips believes that the West Ham board will be very disappointed with summer signing Sebastien Haller after splashing the cash on his signature.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Aston Villa and England hitman says the 25-year-old Frenchman has failed to kick on from his bright start in east London.
Haller, who scored four goals in his first seven Premier League appearances for the Irons, has managed to net just two more times in his last 17 outings, as well as drawing a blank in the FA Cup defeat to West Brom.
Having paid a club-record fee for the Frenchman last summer, Phillips thinks the senior figures at the London Stadium will be frustrated with what they have seen from their star signing.
“Similar strikers have come in to the Premier League in Wesley, Haller, Joelinton – none of them have set the Premier League alight,” Phillips told Football Insider.
“It’s a little bit of a surprise not one of them have hit the ground running. From West Ham’s point of view, they spent £40-odd-million for him, they would have expected a better return.

“It’s more highlighted because of where they are in the league, the pressure is on. When you’re scrapping relegation there’s more pressure on you to score the goals. I’ve seen glimpses.”
Haller netted 33 goals in 77 appearances for former side Eintracht Frankfurt before his move to east London.
He is also a former France under-21 international, with an impressive 13 strikes in 20 games to his name.
