Brentford winger Jota is the most likely player to be the next signing for West Ham in the summer transfer window, according to a report.
The diminutive playmaker, who was installed as runaway favourite to sign for West Ham in this transfer window by SkyBet, with odds of just 4/6, spent a year on loan at SD Eibar before returning to Brentford in December 2016.
He made 21 appearances in the Championship for Brentford last season, scoring an impressive 12 goals and adding five assists.
If the deal goes through, West Ham will be hoping he can show this prolific side in the Premier League.
Football Whispers, which looks at all the current transfer rumours, and rates them in terms of how likely they are to happen, puts the Jota move at number seven, with a rating of 3.8.
Five is the highest rating and means an almost certain move. Jota is currently ahead of Calum Chambers to Crystal Palace and Paulo Dybala to Barcelona.
Football Insider verdict:
Jota’s move to West Ham has been picking up pace over the past week and it looks increasingly likely to happen. West Ham have made some serious signings already this summer, with Marko Arnautovic, Joe Hart, Chicharito and Pablo Zabaleta, and Jota would add even more potency to the attack, which was sorely lacking last year. There are still questions over whether Jota can perform to the same level in the top flight, but at 26 he’s in the peak of his career and he certainly deserves a chance to prove himself after his prolific season in the Championship last campaign. Bilic has signed proven talent, now it’s time to take a risk with an unknown quantity.
In other West Ham transfer news, the Hammers are plotting a £20million move for an international defender.
