Darlow 'could not catch a cold' as Newcastle told to replace him in January after source reveal - pundit

Karl Darlow “could not catch a cold” and Newcastle United need to sign a new goalkeeper in the January transfer window, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker insisted Eddie Howe’s transfer priority should be bringing in new defenders.

A Newcastle source told Football Insider yesterday (November 23) they are planning to make only loan signings in the winter window.

And Agbonlahor has insisted replacing Darlow, 31, and bringing in new defenders should be Howe’s

“I don’t think there were too many encouraging signs at the weekend,” he told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“Yes, it was 3-3 and exciting but you’re conceding three goals.

“They cannot afford to keep drawing games. They’re the only team not to win a game yet this season, how can that be possible after 12 games?

“It’s not a good sign. They need January to come as soon as possible. They need reinforcements as soon as possible, otherwise, they’re going to go down. I’m sure of it.

“They need a new goalkeeper. The goalkeeper they’ve got now, he could not catch a cold.

“The Ivan Toney goal at the weekend, I don’t know how that has gone in.

“He’s made mistakes in the past and that’s part of the problem sometimes. If you haven’t got a good goalkeeper, you’re always going to concede goals.

“If I was them, I’d go out and get a goalkeeper, for sure. That’s just going to keep costing them goals.

“They need to look at the defence and goalkeeper. That’s what Eddie Howe needs to concentrate on, keeping clean sheets.

“You’re always going to score goals with Saint-Maximin and Wilson. So I’d look to sort out the goalkeeper and defence.”
