Pundit drops ‘huge’ Brands claim amid Everton manager hunt update
Alan Hutton has claimed Marcel Brands will play a “huge” part in the appointment of a new Everton manager.
The former Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 59-year-old director of football would need to have a good relationship with the new boss.
As revealed by Football Insider, Everton chairman Bill Kenwright is championing West Ham boss David Moyes as Carlo Ancelotti’s replacement.
However, Hutton suggested Brands could be the most important figure in the Toffees’ hunt for a new manager.
Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “He’ll be in charge of what’s happening at the moment. As in, who’s going out and who’s coming in.
“It’ll be such a huge appointment because those two people have to get on. If they don’t get on, you’re going to struggle. It’s as simple as that.
“Whoever they appoint, there will have to be some sort of relationship, I would have thought, between those two to really move it going forward.
“It’ll be interesting to see. I think there’s a lot of job opportunities at the moment. If clubs can get their guy in and hit the ground running, you don’t know where it can take you.”
Brands has been in his post at Goodison Park since June 2018 and he joined the club’s board in 2019.
The Dutch figure signed a new three-year contract back in April.
