Noel Whelan claims Diego Laxalt is a “fantastic signing” for Celtic after the full-back arrived from AC Milan on deadline-day.

The former Aberdeen and Leeds United striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, claims that the club will have done their “due diligence” on the 27-year-old and scouted him extensively.

The Hoops confirmed the capture of the left-wing back on a season-long loan deal from AC Milan yesterday after Football Insider revealed that an agreement had been reached.

The 24-time Uruguay international made 35 appearances for the Serie A giants following a £13.5million move from Genoa in the summer of 2018.

Lennon was in the hunt for a new left-back following the departure of Boli Bolingoli to Istanbul Basaksehir last month.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the Bhoys latest recruit, Whelan said: “Neil Lennon made no secret about his hunt for a left-wing back.

“An Uruguay international from a top European club. It is a fantastic signing.

“He will fit straight into the mould of Celtic. He is a box-to-box player who is very sound defensively. You cannot say any more than that.

“Lennon knew what he wanted and he got the job done as the club so often do. They have a great recruitment policy there.

“They will have done their due diligence on the player and watched him a lot. I am sure Lennon is happy now. He has all of the jigsaw pieces into place.”

In other Celtic news, Alex McLeish has told Football Insider that Hoops attacker reminds reminds him of Rangers legend.
