Noel Whelan has tipped Rangers to reward Connor Goldson with new contract following his “standout” performances this season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the former Leeds and Aberdeen striker is adamant that Gers boss Steven Gerrard will be desperate for the 27-year-old to commit his long-term future to the club.
Goldson has been ever-present for the Light Blues this season in all competitions and scored two vital goals to secure victory in the first Old Firm clash of the season last month.
As revealed by Football Insider club chiefs are keen to extend the centre-half’s current contract which is due to expire in June 2022.
Whelan claimed that Goldson has established himself as a “key player” in the dressing room at Ibrox.
“Goldson is fully deserving of a new contract,” he told Football Insider. “Absolutely.
“He has been one of their standout performers this season, getting the goals in the Old Firm, it has shown Steven Gerrard that he is worthy of a bumper contract.
“I think right now every player at that club is doing their job. Gerrard will not want to let any of his players go right now, especially not Goldson.
“Any players coming towards the end of their contract, it will be sorted out soon. The club will extend them because they are a great group of players and Goldson is a key player in that group.”
