Paul Robinson has tipped Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho to rest Steven Bergwijn for the League Cup semi-final against Brentford tonight.
The former White Hart Lane number one, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said that he expects Lucas Moura to start in his place with Moussa Sissoko also coming into the side.
The winger has been a key part of Spurs’ success season, grabbing four assists in 19 appearances across all competitions.
However, Robinson believes Mourinho will rest the Netherlands international after a gruelling festive schedule.
“I think Bergwijn has had a few niggling muscle injuries that have been with him for a while,” he told Football Insider.
“I expect Lucas Moura to come in for him and I also expect Moussa Sissoko to play. The big question will be whether Dele Alli plays but I do not think it will be a very-much changed eleven.
“It is a fantastic opportunity to get to Wembley and it is Spurs’ best opportunity to win some silverware for a number of years now. I think it is one of two or three trophies they can challenge for this season.
“They are one game away from Wembley. It is a great opportunity.
“Brentford have only just missed out on promotion over the past couple of seasons though and we saw what they did to Newcastle so they cannot be taken lightly.”
