Pundit 'feels sorry' for Graham Potter after what he's just seen from Chelsea on social media

Graham Potter does not deserve the online criticism and the calls for him to be sacked as Chelsea boss.

That is according to Spurs expert John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Potter, 47, joined Chelsea from Brighton in early September following Thomas Tuchel’s dismissal.

After Saturday’s (12 November) loss to Newcastle, Potter has only won seven of his 14 games in charge of the Blues.

This comes after a summer of heavy spending following Todd Boehly’s takeover, albeit a summer during which Potter was still at Brighton.

Wenham can’t help but feel sorry for Potter.

“It wasn’t just some fans calling for him to go, it was trending on Twitter,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“The club made an announcement about a new partner and underneath the tweet, it was just people vilifying Potter.

“I feel sorry for him, I really do. He has only been in the job five minutes. He has got some decent results, you have to remember Chelsea were bottom of their Champions League group when he took over and they qualified first.

“He has had to compete with a lot of injuries as well. Their lineup against Newcastle was like something you would see from an Everton or someone like that.

“Loftus-Cheek started that game, how is he even still playing for Chelsea? He was a good youngster but he never kicked on.

“I just don’t see it. It’s like Tottenham persisting with Harry Winks.”

Potter managed Brighton between May 2019 and September 2022.

He has also managed Swansea City and Ostersund.
