Agbonlahor: Gelhardt could save Leeds millions as dazzling video emerges

Joe Gelhardt could save Leeds United millions in the transfer window, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England forward insisted Gelhardt is “hungry” and has the quality to “shine” in the absence of Patrick Bamford.

The 19-year-old scored his first Premier League goal in the 3-2 defeat at Chelsea last weekend (11 December) after being introduced as a substitute.

It was not enough to earn him a starting role against Man City but again he came off the bench in the 7-0 defeat to make his seventh appearance of the season.

As quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post ahead of the hammering on Monday (13 December), Marcelo Bielsa revealed Gelhardt’s goal had given him a confidence boost.

Asked if Gelhardt can save the club millions on signing a new striker, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “Yes, I think he can do.

“He looks like a good player, he’s going to be hungry. When you are at his age you want to do well, you want a better contract, you want more money, you want more game time.

“All those factors are what you want. You want a youngster that is hungry.

“I’m sure he’s got the quality to do a job, he’s shown that already.

“Whilst they have got these injuries it is a time for him to shine and keep his place.”

Gelhardt is under contract at Elland Road until the summer of 2024 after moving to Leeds in the summer of 2020.

All seven of his first-team appearances have come this season, including one Premier League start.
