Pundit hails ‘brilliant’ Newcastle ace Joelinton after Howe transformation

Frank McAvennie has been blown away by Joelinton’s recent performances for Newcastle United.

That’s according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Brazilian’s resurgence.

Joelinton, 25, has been transformed into a central midfielder under Eddie Howe.

He has been played as a striker, a winger and an attacking midfielder during his time at Newcastle but has never seen much success.

The Brazilian has earned rave reviews in his new position though Newcastle’s form is yet to improve.

McAvennie is delighted to see the player find some form.

“Well he was signed for £40million, you would expect there is a good player in there somewhere,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“It sounds like he’s found his position. He grafts so hard, that’s clear to see.

“He just had no luck in front of goal, I think he has more confidence when that isn’t his job.

“Newcastle have been lacking good midfielders for a while. It looks like Eddie Howe has got the best out of him.

“He’s been brilliant. I just wonder why it’s taken this long. We all knew he wasn’t a striker.

“He looks revived, that might save them a job in January. The defence and attack is what needs fixing.

“I’m just glad for the boy. It’s never nice to see a player struggling.”

The Magpies have won one game from 19 in all competitions this season.

They sit three points from safety in the Premier League table.
