Pundit hails 'phenomenal' Liverpool after £634m Kieran Maguire reveal

Kevin Phillips has heaped praise on the “phenomenal” Jurgen Klopp after Liverpool thrashed Southampton at Anfield.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the 2000 European Golden Shoe winner is in awe of how the 54-year-old continues to “get the maximum” out of his players.

Finance expert Kieran Maguire revealed to Football Insider that Liverpool’s squad cost £634million.

The sum is considerably less than that of their rivals Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of the figures, Phillips said: “It just highlights what a phenomenal job Klopp is doing.

“He is a great manager. He is clearly getting the very best out of those players.

“Liverpool have been sensible in recent years and have not broke the bank. The club has been very sensible with their decision making and that has been reflected on the pitch.

“Who knows what they can achieve this season. They will believe they can win every competition they are in. It is good to know that they can still compete with the elite despite not spending as much.

“It is not always about spending loads on transfers. It is about getting the maximum out of what you have got. Klopp is so, so good at that.”

Liverpool were comfortable 4-0 winners over Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side on Saturday afternoon.

Next up for Klopp‘s side is a trip to Everton for the first Merseyside derby of the season.
