Pundit hits back over Christian Eriksen after Man United source's £43m reveal
Frank McAvennie has insisted Christian Eriksen has proven he made the right decision to join Man United this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Celtic, West Ham and Scotland striker claimed Eriksen has flourished for Man United because Cristiano Ronaldo has not been playing.
The 30-year-old has started all eight of United’s games across all competitions this season and has two assists to his name.
Sources told Football Insider earlier this month (3 September) that Eriksen’s three-year deal is worth £43million including wages and the signing-on fee.
Asked whether Eriksen has answered his critics this season, McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Charlotte Cohen: “I think they were thinking about Ronaldo up front and all of that.
“Listen, I look at Eriksen and I look at Ronaldo, he’s not going to make a lot of runs but if you want someone to put it on a plate for him, it’s Eriksen. He will find him.

“I thought that would work well. It’s getting the boys around Eriksen to do the grafting.
“Obviously, McTominay and Fred are not doing that. He’s having to do more work than he should be doing, Eriksen.
“His game is finding a pass, finding a forward and he’s very good at that. I’m not saying he can’t tackle but he’s better when he’s got the ball and his vision is different class.
“It’s a strange one he’s playing well because obviously, Ronaldo is not there.
“The young boys are moving for him. They’ve got Antony who they’ve paid an absolute fortune for and he’ll be a runner and Eriksen will be the man to find him.
“I don’t know why people were saying it’s not the right club. Really? Man United? No matter where they are, they are still one of the biggest clubs in the world.
“No disrespect to Brentford, they were great for him and gave him his way back into football. But he was too good for them and they were delighted they got him for that year.”
