Pundit issues 'big' Callum Wilson claim after Newcastle United source's reveal

Alan Hutton has claimed Newcastle United will have to be careful with their recruitment process from now on.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Premier League defender insisted the “big thing” for Newcastle is to keep Callum Wilson fit.

On Saturday (5 November), sources told this site that the Magpies have set aside a “huge sum” for a box-office January signing.

The north-east giants have spent big in the last two windows since the Saudi Arabia-led PiF takeover and are keen to further build upon the work they have done.

The new owners are willing to provide “huge” money if needed in Janaury.

When asked where Newcastle should be looking to bring in reinforcements, Hutton told Football Insider: “It is a difficult one.

At this moment in time, not very many places. You look at their squad and see where they are in the table and they have done excellently well.

I think this is where it becomes difficult and recruitment becomes key. If you want to replace somebody it can’t just be for a squad member, it has to be somebody that is going to come into that starting XI and make you better.

The big thing for me is keeping Callum Wilson fit. I think if they can do that they can go on and do something.

Are they going to look to bring in another striker? Possibly. I think they will need competition up there but in terms of their overall squad I think they look very strong at this moment in time.

The manager will know where he wants to upgrade but it is difficult to do that in January.
