Pundit issues ‘big’ West Ham claim after Gianluca Scamacca latest
West Ham could still finish in the European places this season now Gianluca Scamacca has found his form.
That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the striker’s importance to the Hammers.
Scamacca, 23, scored his first Premier League goal as West Ham beat Wolves 2-0 on Sunday (2 October).
The hitman had notched three goals in eight appearances for West Ham since his arrival in the summer though all of his goals had come in the Europa Conference League.
After opening his Premier League account with a thumping effort, Kenny claims the Hammers will now rocket up the table.
“I have been saying this for ages, they need that big striker who guarantees goals,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“Antonio was that guy for a while, then he got injured and he isn’t as reliable now. Scamacca is the future. What is he, 23?
“He is the one who West Ham need to hit the ground running and get them going. He had scored a few but none in the Premier League. Now he has that first goal, the confidence it will give him, he could go and get another two or three over the next couple of games.
“That’s big for a club who are struggling down near the bottom of the table, they shouldn’t be there.
“I’m sure West Ham will be back near the top of the table in no time if this guy continues to play the way he has done.”

Scamacca notched 16 goals for Sassuolo last term while Jarrod Bowen, West Ham’s top scorer, finished with 18 in all competitions.
The Irons are next in action against Anderlecht on Thursday (6 October).
