Pundit issues exciting Nottingham Forest verdict as new Neco Williams details emerge

Frank McAvennie has suggested Nottingham Forest will be “one to watch” next year after they confirmed the signing of Neco Williams from Liverpool.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-West Ham striker said that £17million is a good bit of business for the Reds.

On Monday (10 July), Liverpool confirmed the departure of the 21-year-old for newly promoted Nottingham Forest.

The Wales international penned a four-year deal for a fee of around £17million.

The defender began his career at Anfield’s youth academy before signing a professional contract in 2020.

When asked for his assessment of the latest, McAvennie told Football Insider: “£17million to go to Nottingham Forest, that’s a good price for Liverpool.

You hope he’s going to come in and challenge and do well. They’ve bought some decent players. £17million is a lot of money for anyone.

They bought [Scott] McKenna from Aberdeen last year and he was voted the best player they’ve signed in a long time. So fair play to Williams going down there.

I think Nottingham Forest could be one to watch next year, they’re not going to challenge for anything but they’re going to turn a few teams over.

“I think they’ll be mid-table and I think that will be a great achievement for them. I think they’ve got a manager that people want to play for and they’re bringing in the right kind of players.

Williams has to keep himself fit and keep playing if he wants to get back to one of the big clubs.
