Pundit issues 'huge' Leeds praise after 36-year-old contract extension confirmed
Kevin Campbell has heaped “huge” praise on Leeds United goalkeeper coach Marcos Abad after he put pen to paper on a new contract at Elland Road.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker credited the 36-year-old for turning Illan Meslier into “one of the best young goalkeepers around”.
Leeds United confirmed Abad had signed a new three-and-a-half year contract on Tuesday.
The Spaniard was brought to the Yorkshire club by Victor Orta in 2017 after spells with Elche and Middlesbrough.
Campbell suggested Abad has made significant improvements to Whites number one Illan Meslier’s game.
“You have to give huge credit,” he told Football Insider.

“Meslier is a really good goalkeeper. I knew nothing about him when he came to Leeds but I have been very impressed with him. He is one of the best young goalkeepers around.
“To be starting in the Premier League as a goalkeeper at 21 is good going.
“I have noticed his game is steadily improving. He is solid and he rarely makes mistakes. Fair play to the goalkeeper coach there, it’s huge to keep him.”
Meslier is the youngest number one goalkeeper in the Premier League.
No goalkeeper in the division has made more saves than the Leeds shot-stopper since his top-flight debut last season. (Premier League)
In August, Meslier put pen to paper on a new contract of his own.
He is currently under contract at Elland Road until the summer of 2026.
