Pundit lambasts Lisandro Martinez over ‘bizarre’ thing he spotted at Man United
Man United defender Lisandro Martinez has been slammed after being spotted celebrating in the aftermath of a mistake he made against Southampton.
That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.
Martinez, 24, played the full game as Man United beat Southampton 1-0 on Saturday (27 August).
The Red Devils survived a late scare as the Saints turned up the pressure in the final moments, forcing David de Gea into a save.
Martinez was unable to win the header as questions remain over his ability to adapt to Premier League football.
Wenham was left baffled by Martinez’s response.
“I noticed there was a really good header at the end which was saved by David de Gea,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“Then I saw Martinez celebrating wildly, I thought, well, you didn’t even block the header. In fact, he was out-jumped for the header.
“With a bit of better finishing, that goal would have been put away and you draw the game, so that was a bit bizarre.
“It was far from convincing, wasn’t it? It could easily have been a draw based on what I saw.”

Martinez joined Ajax in May 2019 and helped the club win four major honours.
The versatile defender has made seven appearances for Argentina after making his international debut on 22 March 2019.
