Pundit lambasts Maguire after ’embarrassing’ Man United reveal
Noel Whelan has slammed Man United star Harry Maguire and his teammates for their “shambolic” displays in recent weeks.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, hinted the Red Devils’ problems may not be entirely Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s fault.
As per Football Daily, Man United have made the least tackles and most errors leading to shots in the Premier League this season.
The Old Trafford club have kept the 18th-most clean sheets and have conceded the fourth-most goals in the league.
Man United are now without a league win in four games and are already six points adrift of their bitter rivals Manchester City, and eight points off leaders Chelsea.
Whelan insisted the club’s “superstars” should shoulder some of the responsibility.
“As the manager, you will always have to take responsibility because that’s what managers do,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“But when you look at the bigger picture, is it always the manager’s fault? No, it’s not.
“Like Harry Maguire said, they have to take a long, hard look at themselves in the mirror.
“They need to ask themselves if they are doing enough for themselves, for the club, for the fans.
“These last three weeks have been embarrassing for Man United – they look shambolic at the moment.
“The stats say everything – the work rate, the running, closing down, they don’t lie.
“You never saw this under Fergie. They haven’t progressed.
“They’ve brought in these world-class, so-called superstars but they haven’t gone anywhere.
“These are individuals who are not working hard enough for the club and the manager.”

Man United’s next two league games are against Tottenham and Man City.
Former Cardiff boss Solskjaer took the reins at the club in 2018 but is yet to win a trophy.
