Pundit excited by Leeds unleashing 'new Aguero' after Thorp Arch reveal

Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Marcelo Bielsa will not be afraid to throw Archie Gray into the Leeds United first XI if he thinks he is good enough.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker delivered his verdict after Gray travelled with the Leeds squad to their 2-1 defeat to Tottenham at the weekend.

The Athletic‘s Phil Hay reported (November 22) the 15-year-old’s performances in training had set “tongues wagging” at Thorp Arch.

Speaking to La Media Inglesa last month, as translated by All Stats Aren’t We, Victor Orta compared watching the teenager to the first time he saw Sergio Aguero.

As quoted by Leeds Live after the Spurs game, Marcelo Bielsa revealed Gray was an option for the bench.

“Football has changed now, to be honest,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“Managers will pick players when they are good enough, not on the age.

“If he’s 15 and he’s good enough then so be it. There is no age you have to be to make your debut.

“If he’s good enough to make his debut then he will. Everybody’s different.”

Gray is the great-nephew of Whites legend Eddie, the grandson of former Leeds defender Frank and the son of ex-forward Andy.

He has already tested himself against senior professionals with the club’s Under-23s in the Papa John’s Trophy.

The midfielder became the youngest player to register an assist in the competition during the 4-1 defeat to Tranmere Rovers in September.
