Pundit makes 'crazy' Ndombele transfer claim after Tottenham source's 'mega money' reveal

Noel Whelan has insisted a club would have to be “crazy” to sign Tanguy Ndombele from Tottenham in January.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed Spurs need to get rid of the 24-year-old “as quickly as possible”.

A Tottenham source has told Football Insider (25th November) Antonio Conte has given Spurs the green light to offload the £200,000-a-week midfielder in the winter window.

The Italian publicly questioned Ndombele’s work-rate last week.

It is understood Conte is not convinced the midfielder is capable of changing his ways and has told the club to listen to offers.

Whelan suggested any suitors would be taking a massive gamble on signing Ndombele.

“Well, there’s always some crazy people out there in January getting bargains, isn’t there?” Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.

“That’s the word, they would be crazy.

“But you never know, it might work. I don’t know what to do when you’ve got people like that.

“You can discipline them all you want but it’s like having a spoiled child at home. You keep telling them and telling them, they might have one good day but then they’re back to their normal self.

“What do you do with an Ndombele? You’ve got to try and get shot of him as quickly as possible. He’s earning mega money and not delivering.

“How many managers have tried with him? This is not a coincidence. This is a problem that he has that somebody else needs to deal with because Conte won’t stand for it.”

Ndombele made his first start under Antonio Conte in Thursday’s shock 2-1 defeat to NS Mura.

He has played three times since the Italian’s arrival.
