Pundit makes 'incredible' Newcastle claim after Emery update from Hope
Unai Emery “is not the answer” for Newcastle United under new ownership, according to Paul Robinson.
The former Premier League goalkeeper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 49-year-old would be out of his depth in a relegation battle even though he’s managed in the Premier League before.
According to The Northern Echo (20th October), Emery would be willing to leave his current club Villarreal if offered the vacant post at St. James’ Park.
The Daily Mail’s Craig Hope has since claimed he expects Emery, Roberto Martinez or Lucien Favre to emerge as a top contender this week.
Robinson is unconvinced by Emery’s credentials on the evidence of his time at Arsenal.
“No, no, no, he’s not a name that would excite me as a Newcastle fan,” he told Football Insider.

“Do you want a manager that failed at Arsenal? Probably not.
“There is an incredible amount of investment coming in and you want a manager who can match the ambition. Emery is not the answer for me.
“First of all, there needs to be a clear plan for the next 18 months. They need a manager who can keep them in the Premier League but can also attract a better quality of player in January.
“Unai Emery does not know how to keep a club in the Premier League. I’ll say it again, he failed at Arsenal. There’s better candidates out there for me.”
