Kevin Phillips is adamant Joe Aribo will only leave Rangers for a chance to play in the English Premier League.

The ex-England striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, has claimed the 24-year-old is unlikely to be lured away from Ibrox, unless a Premier League club comes calling.

Turkish giants Galatasaray were reported to have held talks with Aribo over a transfer this summer, as per Fotospor, but were quoted an £8.6million asking price for the Nigeria international.

When asked by Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs if Aribo would push for an exit, Phillips said: “Why would he leave? Unless he gets the chance to go and play in the Premier League, that’s the next step for players at clubs like Rangers and Celtic, we’ve seen that over the years.

“But why would he leave when he knows he’s playing European football next year and is going to be challenging for the title?

“They’ve got those huge games to look forward to.

“I don’t see why he would want to leave what’s going on up there. Something is being built there that’s exciting, and he’s got a world-class player as his manager who is making big strides.”

Aribo made 48 appearances for the Gers last season, scoring nine goals as the Glasgow giants made waves in Scotland and abroad.

The 2018 signing from Charlton struck seven times in the league to help the Light Blues win the Scottish Premiership, while he was a vital part of the side that advanced to the last 16 of the Europa League knock-out stage.
