Pundit slams Solskjaer as controversial Ferguson footage emerges at Man United

Ole Gunnar Solskajer should not have dropped Cristiano Ronaldo to the Man United bench against Everton, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker insisted a video of Sir Alex Ferguson criticising the decision proved Ole got it wrong last weekend.

Ronaldo had started every Premier League game for United since his return to Old Trafford over the summer before Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Everton.

He was introduced from the bench but could not stop his side from dropping points for the second time in successive games.

As reported by the Guardian, a video has emerged of Ferguson telling UFC legend Khabib Nurmagomedov that Solskjaer should have started Ronaldo.

“To be honest, I didn’t think it was the right decision,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“There are times to rest Ronaldo, rest him when you’ve got Norwich at home. Rest him when you’re playing against one of the teams to beat at home.

“When you’re playing Everton who have started the season on fire, it’s a game where you need to Ronaldo. He could have been the difference.

“Why would you rest a player when there’s the international break coming up? If there was a Champions League game on Wednesday and the game next Saturday, Ole may have got away with it. Send him to Portugal exhausted. That’s not your problem.

“You’re paying him ridiculous money and you want to win the league. For me, it was a baffling decision. I would have played my strongest side. Paul Pogba in there as well.

“He can get his rest on the international break. If I’m the manager of Portugal I’m sending Ole Gunnar Solskjaer some wine because you’ve rested Ronaldo so he’s fresh for Portugal.

“To see Sir Alex Ferguson say it in a video just shows it was the wrong decision.”
