Pundit suggests Edouard to snub Celtic exit and ‘double his wages’ after update from France

Noel Whelan has claimed Odsonne Edouard could snub a transfer away from Celtic this summer to “double his wages” deal next year.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Aberdeen striker suggested the player’s “greed” may scupper a move.

As revealed by Football Insider (27th August), Bordeaux are set to submit a late £15.4million bid and the latest from a Celtic source today is that multiple late offers are expected for the 23-year-old.

The Celtic hitman has been in high demand this summer, with his contract set to expire next year.

However, despite holding talks with multiple clubs from the Premier League and overseas, he has been unable to agree terms.

As detailed by this site in April, Edouard was determined to leave Parkhead regardless of who came in as manager.

Whelan suggested the Frenchman could now stay at Celtic for one more year to leave on a free and secure a big-money contract.

“Right now I can’t see any transfers taking place,” Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.

“That kind of temptation for a player, knowing there’s going to be no fee but you’re going to get a lot more money, double his wages.

“Sometimes greed can take over in a player when really you should be helping the club that’s helped you.”

Despite the speculation, Edouard has remained a first-team regular under Ange Postecoglou this season.

He has featured in all 10 of the Hoops’ fixtures so far, with five starts under his belt.

He has scored three goals and contributed two assists, including one of each in the 3-2 League Cup win over Hearts.

Edouard has a total of 178 appearances and 86 goals under his belt for the Bhoys.
