Pundit suggests how Giovanni van Bronckhorst will save his job after Rangers source's reveal

Noel Whelan has suggested the international break could breathe new life into Rangers and under-pressure boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

The former Leeds and Aberdeen striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Ibrox club’s title chances are already in “danger”.

Football Insider revealed on Thursday (15 September) that Van Bronckhorst is under growing threat of the sack after a dismal start to the campaign.

Rangers chiefs are believed to be increasingly concerned about how far the team has slipped behind Celtic in the wake of a 4-0 Old Firm demolition earlier this month.

Van Bronckhorst has also overseen two heavy defeats in Europe – losing 3-0 at home against Napoli and 4-0 away at Ajax.

Whelan insisted the Gers stars need to find “quality, confidence, and belief” in their individual games again.

He told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “A manager’s job is always under pressure when you’re struggling to win football matches.

“Celtic have got a healthy lead over Rangers right now. It’s a dangerous lead and they can’t afford any more slip-ups.

“They’ve got to find some quality, confidence, and belief in their game again.

“What could help the players with that is the chance to go away on this international break and just reset.

“When you’ve got a game who is struggling to know how to win, it becomes very difficult. So I think that will help.”

Malik Tilman, James Sands, Borna Barisic, Tom Lawrence, and Rabbi Matondo are among the Rangers stars who could feature at the 2022 World Cup.

The Gers’ Champions League campaign will resume after the break with a double-header against last season’s finalists Liverpool.
