Pundit tells Tottenham fans who to believe after Levy ‘leaks over Kane
Frank McAvennie has defended Harry Kane after he opened up on his Tottenham future.
The former West Ham hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, blamed Daniel Levy for painting the striker in a bad light during the summer.
Kane is quoted by The Athletic (11 November) as saying he “coped well” with a summer of transfer speculation.
Man City attempted to sign the England captain but failed to meet Tottenham’s asking price.
This led to confusion as Kane failed to report for the first day of pre-season training.
In a statement on 6 August, the England captain insisted he had never refused to train and claimed he was always due back at Hotspur Way later than everyone else.
McAvennie insists Kane handled the situation in the summer as well as he could have and blamed Levy for “leaking” to the press.
“I would always believe Kane over Levy,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“So in my mind, Kane turned up at training when he was supposed to and he never did anything wrong.
“He never went on strike but he was dropped from the team while this was all going on.
“Honestly, I thought it was a shambles when it was happening.
“I think those leaks were a bit out of order. When Kane wasn’t at training, Levy will have been telling people to write bad things about him.
“Meanwhile, Kane is just enjoying his holiday. I think Kane handled it as well as he could have.
“I don’t blame him for any of this.”

Kane has only scored one Premier League goal in ten outings this season.
Tottenham are next in action against Leeds United on Sunday afternoon.
