Pundit: Tottenham could be signing the next Chiellini as agreement in place
Frank McAvennie hopes Bologna defender Takehiro Tomiyasu can channel his inner Giorgio Chiellini if he signs for Tottenham.
The former West Ham hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insists Spurs need a new central defender this summer.
Football Insider revealed on 2nd July that Tomiyasu has his “heart set” on a move to Spurs and has made that clear to his inner circle.
This site later revealed on Thursday (8th July) that the club have agreed personal terms with Tomiyasu and are confident of signing him this month.
It is understood The Londoners have offered £15.5million including add-ons for Tomiyasu.
The Japan international has been playing in Italy since 2019 and McAvennie is hoping he can draw inspiration from Italy’s impressive defensive showings at Euro 2020.

“They need a centre half,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“This Euros has been great and I’ve been watching the Italians.
“Defending is an art and they love to defend. That used to be a big part of the game.
“But no one in this country wants to defend anymore. They need a big man who can just go out and win the ball.
“They need someone like the Italians have, they need that big man.
“I don’t know much about the guy but that’s what Spurs need more than anything. You hope he can be an artist.”
Italy have been one of the teams to watch at this summer’s Euros.
They face England in Sunday’s final, looking to win a first major trophy since 2006.
