Pundit verdict on Rangers recalling Katic after yet another injury blow
Frank McAvennie doubts Rangers will recall Nikola Katic from his loan deal in Croatia amid an injury crisis.
The Celtic icon, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted to the latest Gers injury news.
Filip Helander has been ruled out until February and Connor Goldson missed Thursday’s game against Sparta Prague.
However, Steven Gerrard has yesterday (1 October) confirmed Goldson faces a race against time to make the squad for the Hibernian game on Sunday.
Katic, 24, joined Hajduk Split in August after returning his lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Rangers confirmed they had included a potential recall clause for January in the terms of the loan deal.

McAvennie claims Rangers won’t recall Katic as, if that was a serious option, he would already be back at Ibrox.
“I don’t know about that,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“If Rangers were that desperate for Katic, he would already be back.
“There will be concerns over his fitness and he hasn’t played at a decent level for so long now.
“Also, Rangers are lacking that extra defender in Europe, that’s their big problem.
“As far as I’m aware, they wouldn’t be able to register him for Europe anyway.
“Unless they brought him back to ease the burden in the league, so players like Goldson can then only play in Europe.
“I’m not sure. I don’t see it personally. I’m sure they have considered it.”
Katic missed the entirety of last season after picking up a freak injury in training the previous year.
He has made 59 appearances for the club and scored an iconic goal in an Old Firm win at Celtic Park.
