Pundit View: Leeds star will be axed v Newcastle after early team news - 'Absolutely No Doubt'
Noel Whelan has tipped Illan Meslier to replace Kiko Casilla in the Leeds United starting XI against Newcastle United on Tuesday evening.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Whites striker and boyhood Elland Road fan claimed it will be easy for Marcelo Bielsa to make the change as his side were “awful” against Brighton & Hove Albion in their last game.
Casilla was handed his first Premier League start against the Seagulls as Meslier was suffering from health issues.
Bielsa confirmed in his pre-match press conference ahead of the Newcastle game that the Frenchman had “resolved” his issues and was ready to return to the side.
Meslier had been an ever-present in the Premier League before the Brighton game and had kept six clean sheets in 17 games.
Asked by Football Insider whether he will regain his place for the trip to St. James’ Park, Whelan said: “He’ll be straight back in for Casilla, absolutely no doubt about that.

“Even though he didn’t have too much to do, it was a losing side and you can afford to make changes. If they would have won it, it’s a different story.
“He didn’t cover himself in glory [against Crawley] and didn’t have too much to do against Brighton and we were awful anyway and they didn’t create too many chances – it was just the one that defined the game.”
Casilla conceded three goals against Crawley Town in the FA Cup third round as the Whites crashed out of the cup.
Against Brighton, the one-time Spain international conceded the only goal as Leeds’ winless run stretched to three.
