‘Pure stupidity’ – Nottingham Forest fans rip into ‘moronic’ starter after what he did vs Fulham

Nottingham Forest fans have criticised Douglas Luiz online after he gave away the penalty that led to their 1-0 loss to Fulham on Monday night.

Luiz joined Forest in the summer window after he had struggled to make an impression at Juventus last season following a £43.5million move from Aston Villa.

Football Insider revealed ahead of this term that Luiz was wanted by Man United and Everton, but he instead made the move to the City Ground in August on a season-long loan.

He did not even feature under Nuno Espirito Santo prior to his dismissal, but came into the Forest team under Ange Postecoglou and then Sean Dyche before suffering an injury against Man United last month.

The Brazilian midfielder made his fifth Premier League start of the campaign as Forest lost 1-0 at Fulham on Monday night to stay 17th in the table, and he was the man at fault for the Cottagers’ winner.

Luiz’s moment of madness to give away a penalty handed Fulham the win

Dyche’s side were in desperate need of another three points in West London as they headed into the clash just one place above the relegation zone despite some impressive recent form.

Fulham looked the more likely to score in the first half, though, and Luiz presented them with a fine chance to do just that before the break as he fouled Kevin in the penalty area.

The Cottagers winger had found his way into the box with some quick feet, but was moving away from the goal and out of immediate danger when Luiz tried to clear the ball after it had broken loose, but instead kicked the left leg of his compatriot.

Raul Jimenez continued his 100 per cent scoring record from the penalty spot in the Premier League to give the hosts the lead, and it ended 1-0 as the Reds remained 17th.

Forest fans slam Luiz for ‘idiotic’ moment vs Fulham

Forest are planning additions to their squad in January in the hope that some fresh faces can give them the boost they need to pull away from the bottom three soon.

Losses like the one at Craven Cottage have to be avoided if they are to survive this season, and their fans will have expected a lot more from Luiz, considering his experience and quality.

Taking to X, one fan asked: “Why the hell did Douglas Luiz do that? Absolutely moronic thing to do.”

Another said: “For someone so experienced, that was the most naive attempt at a clearance (foul) from Douglas Luiz in a largely nothing first half.”

While one added: “Douglas Luiz…what are we doing there mate? That was completely brain-dead.”
