‘Raheem Sterling decision made at Arsenal amid January Evan Ferguson links’
Arsenal winger Raheem Sterling is not going back to Chelsea amid speculation about a deal for Brighton’s Evan Ferguson, according to Alex Crook.
According to his update on 27 January, the Gunners will not send Sterling or Neto back to their parent clubs as both are “locked in for the season” at the Emirates. As a result, they are unable to sign another domestic player on loan.
Crook further explained that the Gunners could only sign Ferguson permanently if they decide to move for the forward this month, given their current loan limitations.
Sterling and Neto, both acquired for the year during the summer transfer window, have already filled the quota for domestic loan signings.
This development puts pressure on the club’s decision-making regarding Ferguson, as any deal would now require a significant financial commitment, although Crook indicates there is nothing advanced in that regard as the Gunners are merely on the “list of admirers” for the Seagulls striker.
Arsenal may have to take a gamble in the January transfer window
Football Insider Verdict
Mikel Arteta’s side have endured an injury-hit season, with setbacks to key players like Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus.
Jesus’ injury has intensified calls from fans for a new striker signing. Their current options up front are limited to Kai Havertz, who has struggled as of late.
The club has been linked with forwards such as Alexander Isak but with recent updates, fans are convinced the club won’t be signing a forward this month.
Football Insider revealed Isak is seen as a priority signing for the summer rather than now, leaving Arteta with pressing concerns up front.

With Saka sidelined, the coach has called upon 17-year-old Nwaneri to start ahead of Sterling.
The former Manchester City man joined the club on loan in the summer but has struggled to make an impact. This has led fans to call for his loan to be cancelled.
There was speculation that Arsenal could pursue a loan deal for Ferguson, allowing the club to reserve their summer budget for a marquee signing like Isak.
However, according to Crook, this scenario is off the table. Meaning a permanent deal is the only viable option for the Gunners this month.
While a mid-season investment may seem risky, Ferguson’s potential could make it worthwhile. The 21-year-old showcased his talent with 16 goals and five assists during the 2022/23 campaign.
Despite his inconsistent recent performances, Arsenal’s light attacking options might push them to take a chance on the promising forward.
