Rangers are closing in on their fourth summer signing, with Brighton defender Connor Goldson set to join the Gerrard revolution, according to a reliable journalist.

Bill Young, from RockSportRadio, claimed on his personal Twitter page on Monday afternoon that the only hold-up was medical and insurance clearance.

He added that this meant the player had agreed terms.

If he signs he would become the fourth deal of the summer after Allan McGregor, Scott Arfield and Jamie Murphy.

Football Insider verdict:

Rangers will be glad to get this one over the line, after reports of a couple of failed bids. We don’t know what the final fee will be, but if earlier reports are correct it will be nudging towards £3million. That’s a significant amount of money, but in Goldson they’re getting a centre-back who is a cut above what they had to make do with last season. Goldson is unlucky that he didn’t feature more in the Brighton team last season, and Brighton fans are gutted that he’s going. They think he had more to offer their side than he was allowed to show, and that his departure will weaken their squad considerably. Gerrard identified the defence as the major problem are for Rangers and this is the first big deal that moves towards addressing this. Goldson has previously had a heart problem and surgery and everyone concerned will hope that this doesn’t have an effect on his upcoming medical.
