Rangers already have next Nathan Patterson at Ibrox what I’ve seen from ‘standout’ teen – pundit

Alan Hutton has tipped Alex Lowry to be the next breakthrough talent at Rangers after his “standout” performance against Hearts.

The former Gers defender and Rangers TV pundit, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 18-year-old can emulate Nathan Patterson by establishing himself in the senior side as a teenager.

The attacking midfielder scored his first league goal for the Light Blues against Hearts, while he also grabbed an assist in the 3-1 win.

Lowry penned a new contract at Ibrox this month after Football Insider revealed he was close to agreeing new terms.

This site detailed last month that both Newcastle and Manchester City held talks with his agent over a move.

Hutton suggested the highly-rated starlet is now in line for more first-team action at Rangers.

Asked if he thought Lowry could be the next Nathan Patterson, Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Yeah, I think so. He’s the one for me that’s a standout among the young boys at this moment in time.

“It doesn’t mean that the other ones can’t emulate that but I think he looks ready. He obviously needs to fill out a little bit, that will come through time. The Premiership in Scotland can be very difficult, very physical, and it’s something he’ll have to get used to.

“Technically, how composed he is on the ball, he’s not flustered at all. Hearts have come third, it’s been an excellent season for them and that was their strongest team.

“He was so calm on the ball, he wanted to go forward, his touch was excellent. he just ticks all the boxes. I’m pretty sure Giovanni van Bronckhorst was very happy with his performance. He knows now that he can trust him in these bigger games. He’s taken to it like a fish to water and he doesn’t look out of place.”
