Rangers could be set to launch a swoop for Burnley midfielder Scott Arfield on a pre-contract – and the 29-year-old is exactly the sort of player the Light Blues should be doing everything to bring to Ibrox.

According to the Daily Mail, the Canadian international is on director of football Mark Allen’s list of targets for next season as the Light Blues rebuild the squad.

Arfield has regularly been one of Burnley’s most consistent performers over the last few years and would be a quality addition to the squad at Ibrox as the Gers look to wrestle the title away from bitter rivals Celtic

The midfielder seems to have been on the Gers’ radar for years – going all the way back to his time at Falkirk – and is someone Ibrox fans have longed to see turn out for the Light Blues.

For some reason, Arfield seems to have often been forgotten about in Scotland with the 29-year-old having to play for Canada at international level after continually being overlooked by the Scottish selectors despite regularly performing in the Premier League – helping the Clarets fly high in seventh this season.

Getting a player of Arfield’s quality on a free would also prove to be a fantastic bit of business for the Ibrox giants and add some genuine quality to a midfield that has never really clicked together for any length of time this season.

The likes of Andy Halliday, Sean Goss and Jason Holt could all find themselves leaving Ibrox in the summer meaning the Gers would be short on both numbers and quality in midfield and Arfield can very much help the Light Blues put that right.
