Candeias delivers bold statement on Rangers title ambitions
Rangers winger Daniel Candeias believes that the Gers still have a chance of winning the Scottish Premier League title this season.
The 29-year-old forward made the comments during an interview with a Portuguese magazine where he was quoted as saying in the Daily Record: “We play Celtic in a few weeks. It won’t be easy to win the title but it’s not impossible either.
“Of course Celtic have a lot of quality … but let’s just see.
“Our aim this season is to win at least one trophy. We are also in the Scottish Cup quarter-final too. With the size of club we are and the fans that we represent, we should be winning trophies.
“We still have to play Celtic before the league breaks into a split and then we play them again and all the other clubs in the top six too.”
As it stands the Gers are nine points behind their Old Firm rivals who have not won in two league games and drew last time out against St Johnstone.
With Aberdeen also losing at the weekend and the Light Blues picking up all three points against Hamilton Academical, it allowed Graeme Murty’s side to close the gap at the top.
And provided both sides collect maximum points between now and when the two teams come face to face in March, a win against the Bhoys will see the gap close to just six points.
The Gers have been in good form lately, and despite looking iffy at the back at times against the Accies on Sunday, going forward they have been scintillating.
With Josh Windass seemingly in the form of his career and Alfredo Morelos continuing to punish opposition defences, it would seem that the Gers have momentum on their side.
The one concern that Murty’s side have shown this season, is their form at Ibrox, where a majority of the seven defeats they have suffered have occurred.
But on Saturday they have an opportunity to show the Light Blues faithful they mean business by bagging all three points against Hearts at home.
In other Rangers news, new Gers shattering injury blow, potentially season-ending, must prompt change.
