Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard is reportedly expected in Glasgow on Monday for talks with Rangers over taking over from Graeme Murty as manager – and the Gers board need to deliver or they will have no way back with fans.

According to ESPN, Gerrard is due in Glasgow after seeing the Gers humiliated in Sunday’s 5-0 Old Firm thrashing which handed Celtic a seventh successive Scottish title.

Gers fans have been becoming more disgruntled with the direction the club is heading in and after the much-publicised pursuit of Gerrard, failure quite simply isn’t an option for Dave King and the other directors.

The Light Blues have already been dealt one bloody lip when Derek McInnes decided to stick with Aberdeen rather than take the reins at Ibrox, another at the hands of Gerrard would leave the board without any credibility to find yet another candidate.

With Graeme Murty under contract until the summer, the Gers will no doubt feel they have time to make the right choice but after Sunday’s capitualtion, Gers fans want something to change sooner rather than later.

With all of their eggs seemingly in one, pretty unqualified, basket the Gers are taking a massive gamble in their pursuit of the Liverpool youth coach and it could still massively backfire even if they do get their man but whatever happens, Dave King, Stewart Robertson or Mark Allen need to have a picture of them posing with Gerrard and a Rangers scarf very, very soon.

In other Rangers news, Dave King must improve his offer to Gerrard after an English club joined the hunt to appoint the Liverpool icon.
