Rangers boss Caixinha takes huge dig at Rodgers ahead of Celtic clash

By Harvey Byrne

Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha has taken a huge dig at his Celtic counterpart, asking “how much did he invest in his first season here?”

The Portuguese senior man was of course responding to comments made by the Northern Irishman earlier in the week, pointing out that the Ibrox giants had spent more than them over the last summer.

The two Glasgow bosses are currently preparing for the first Old Firm derby of the 2017-18 campaign with the two Scottish giants set to meet at Ibrox on Saturday afternoon.

However, they are also doing battle off the pitch and in his own press conferece Caixinha made reference to Rodgers’ first summer in charge of Celtic, which saw him add the likes of Scott Sinclair, Moussa Dembele and Cristian Gamboa to his side.

“How much did he invest in his first season here?” said Caixinha, as quoted by the Herald.

“You might want to have a look at the numbers. Or if you want you can add the two seasons – the previous one and this one – and afterwards draw your own conclusions.

“I don’t need to answer to what he said, what he thinks or whatever. I just need to focus on my team and my club.

“Because I arrived when last season was already on, I don’t know the investment by Celtic at the beginning of the season when he arrived. But if you compare it then you’ll have your answer and the own answer to his question. It is not my concern.”

Caixinha had a busy first window in charge of Rangers, bringing in as many as 11 new senior players, including the likes of Alfredo Morelos, Graham Dorrans and Bruno Alves.

Meanwhile, Celtic brought in five new additions with each of Jonny Hayes, Kundai Benyu, Olivier Ntcham, Patrick Roberts and Odsonne Edouard making the switch to Glasgow.

The two bitter rivals are currently seprated by five points and two places in the Premiership table and both will be aiming for the three points this weekend.
