Rangers are hoping to get a loan deal for Manchester City winger Brandon Barker over the line, according to a report.
The Scottish Sun claims that Steven Gerrard’s side are battling Hibernian to land his signature and are looking bring him to Ibrox on a temporary basis for now, despite the fact Premier League champions Man City would sell.
It is understood that Hibs are viewed as outsiders to land the speed machine due to wages, with the Gers and Hull City in pole position.
The report details that director of football Mark Allen wants to snap up the 21-year-old by next week ahead of the Europa League clash on 12 June, while he also wants to complete a loan swoop or Roma centre-forward Umar Sadiq.
Barker spent last season on loan in the Scottish top flight with Hibs and is a highly-rated wide man with great pace.
Football Insider verdict:
Gerrard continues to oversee a major overhaul of the squad at Rangers and getting the business done well in advance of the European showdowns is certainly the right thing to do. Allen wants to complete the club’s eighth and ninth signings of the summer next week, something that will extremely delight supporters. Barker is an interesting option for the Light Blues and he showed in patches for Hibs how much of a threat he can be. The left-winger is a brilliant dribbler and would be able to improve competition within the squad for a starting berth. He certainly still has to improve with his final ball in front of goal, but will be playing with better players at Ibrox and if a high-profile name in Gerrard can’t inspire you then you’ve got no chance. Rangers fans should approve of a potential swoop for Barker and are crying out for eye-catching players that can get them off their seats with sublime skill.
