Rangers confirm date change for Europa League trip to Macedonia

Rangers have confirmed a change of dates for the second leg of their Europa League first qualifying round clash with Macedonia’s FK Shkupi.

The Gers’ supporter liason officer Greg Marshall confirmed on Twitter that the second leg has been brought forward to Tuesday July 17th rather than the original Thursday date.

Thanks to FK Shkupi and two other sides from the Macedonian capital Skopje all being drawn away from home first there has had to be changes made to the dates to accommodate all three sides.

If Steven Gerrard’s side can progress, it will give them an extra two days to prepare for their second qualifying round clash with CS Petrocub or NK Osijek.

Football Insider verdict:

Gerrard’s side will be hoping to do as much of the hard work in the first leg as possible and get a resounding win at Ibrox. Playing on Thursday and then Tuesday will actually help the Gers at it gives them the chance to build some momentum as they kick off their season. The extra few days break ahead of the next round also allows Gerrard’s side the chance to work on any issues that come up and continue to get to grips with the manager’s style of play. Gers fans will no doubt travel to Macedonia in large numbers to cheer on their side and will be desperate to avoid a similar ending to last year’s European campaign. With kick off times to still be confirmed, the Gers will he hoping to avoid a game in the early evening as average temperatures reach 31°c in Skopje in July although TV may dictate an early start time.
