Rangers could agree ‘incredible’ Jamie Vardy deal – ‘it would be a masterstroke’

Rangers have been tipped to agree an “incredible” deal to sign former Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy.

The forward departed Leicester following the expiration of his contract last month, after a 13-year spell at the King Power Stadium.

Football Insider have exclusively revealed that Rangers are accelerating their pursuit of Vardy and have held preliminary talks over a deal.

Russell Martin wants to bolster his attack ahead of the upcoming campaign, and feels that the former England international would be a smart signing.

Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Pittodrie between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Vardy would be a superb signing for the Glasgow giants.

‘Vardy would do so well for Rangers’, says Wyness

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that Vardy would be “incredible” for Rangers, and it would be a masterstroke if the Scottish club could pull the deal off.

In the last week, the Gers have confirmed the signings of Thelo Aasgaard from Luton Town and Emmanuel Fernandez from Peterborough.

Wyness added that these two additions prove that Martin wants to mix youth with experience at Ibrox.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “When I saw those two deals, I thought they’re looking for players with talent that they think they can mature that will do well in Scotland.

“Now, we’re seeing Joe Rothwell, who was a great player for Leeds last year, going to Rangers, and we’re seeing Jamie Vardy linked again.

“I think Vardy would be a masterstroke for Rangers. I think he would just do so well in Scotland. It would be incredible. I think he’d have so much fun up there.

“Probably too much fun though in Glasgow. Unfortunately for Jamie, his wife might have something to say about that!”

Leon King’s move to Wycombe collapses

Meanwhile, Football Insider exclusively revealed that Rangers defender Leon King’s transfer to Wycombe Wanderers has collapsed.

The two clubs had agreed a fee for the 21-year-old to move to the League One club, but sources have said the move is now off after the player held talks with Wycombe.

King, who featured in Martin’s first game in charge against Club Brugge last weekend, is now set to remain at Ibrox for the time being.

The Scottish giants remain open to offers for the centre-back.
