‘Rangers could now pay seven-figure fee to seal Danny Rohl appointment’
Rangers have been widely linked with impressive Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl as they search for a permanent Philippe Clement successor.
Rohl, 36, has openly discussed an exit from Hillsborough this summer and the Ibrox hot seat is now open following Barry Ferguson‘s departure as interim boss.
Ex-Southampton boss Russell Martin and former Rangers hero Steven Gerrard have also been mentioned as potential targets for the Glasgow giants.
Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Pittodrie between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – revealed he has heard Rangers will have to pay up to £7-8million in compensation to seal a deal for Rohl.

Rangers ‘won’t be frightened’ to pay Rohl compensation, says Wyness
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted Rangers “won’t be frightened” to part with that cash if they feel Rohl is the right man to beat Celtic.
Rohl took his first senior management role at Sheffield Wednesday in October 2023 and secured Championship survival in his first season before leading the Owls to a 12th-place finish in the 2024-25 campaign.

Wyness insisted any new manager will have to be capable of a “dramatic” rebuild with Celtic currently boasting a “better squad” and more funds for transfer deals.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I don’t necessarily think that will frighten Rangers off.
“They will pay it if they see Rohl as the right guy.
“I’ve heard the release clause could be as high as £7-8million, which is a lot for a Sheffield Wednesday manager.
“I think Russell Martin should be the front-runner, but the whole question is – can this new manager bring what it takes to beat Celtic?
“They’ve got to be able to pick wits with Brendan Rodgers. Celtic, at this time, have more to spend and a better squad.
“You need someone who can do something a bit more dramatic.”
