Rangers: Danny Rohl has hit the jackpot as talks planned for permanent Jose Cifuentes exit

Rangers appear set to have their coffers boosted by the sale of Jose Cifuentes in the early stages of this summer’s transfer window.

The midfielder has spent the season on loan with MLS side Toronto FC, who are already planning talks to trigger their option to buy the 27-year-old at the end of the campaign, according to the Scottish Sun.

The Canadians’ general manager Jason Hernandez has suggested that while the Ecuadorian star’s future is “yet to be decided,” he and his team have every intention of sitting down with the player and trying to make a deal work.

Cifuentes has received rave reviews from the Toronto chief, and it is clear that they are keen to keep him around long-term if at all possible.

Rangers’ transfer plans are already in place for the summer, but it will be music to their ears to hear that a further cash influx could be just around the corner.

Rangers could be set to make their money back on Jose Cifuentes

Cifuentes has quickly become the forgotten man at Ibrox in the aftermath of his £1.2million move from LAFC back in 2023, and he has spent most of the recent campaigns out on loan.

He made 20 appearances for the Gers in all competitions during his first few months in Scotland, before he was promptly shipped out to Cruzeiro on loan.

Spells with Aris Thessaloniki and Toronto FC have since followed, meaning that Rohl will not have even had chance to take a look at the 27-year-old yet.

However, that won’t bother the German boss one bit, provided that Toronto ultimately decide to trigger their option to buy him this summer.

Cifuentes has little value to his parent club as he prepares to enter the final year of his contract, but they could stand to make £1.5m from a sale if Toronto are willing, according to Transfermarkt.

That would see Rangers effectively cancel out their initial investment on Cifuentes, while also providing their coffers with a small boost.

Rohl will be feeling like he has hit the jackpot if that situation plays out, as he and the recruitment team will receive money for a player who everyone has essentially already forgotten about.

Cifuentes sale could boost chances of Silas Andersen deal

Football Insider revealed back in March that BK Hacken star Silas Andersen could yet move to Rangers this summer, despite recently penning a new deal with the Swedish outfit.

Rohl and Co. were heavily linked with a move for the 21-year-old midfielder during the recent January window, and he remains a long-term target for them ahead of the summer.

Hacken are in a strong position due to their recent contract agreement, and they are set to demand a fee “well in excess” of the £5-6m mark, a substantial sum by Scottish Premiership standards.

However, an influx of cash from the sale of Cifuentes would surely boost the chances of Rangers being able to land the youngster, as it would be money that they may have failed to account for previously.

Rohl will want to strengthen his group again next season, regardless of how the remainder of the title race plays out, and as a result, every penny that comes in will help him to achieve that goal.
