Michael Brown has suggested it might be “time” for Rangers to cash in on star forward Alfredo Morelos with speculation surrounding his future growing.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Premier League midfielder insisted that the Glasgow giants already have an adequate replacement, following this signing of Kemar Roofe.
Speaking after Thursday’s defeat to Bayer Leverkusen, Gerrard admitted to BT Sport “everyone knows” that Morelos has had his head turned over a move this summer transfer window.
As previously revealed by Football Insider, Rangers are in advanced talks with Lille over a £17million deal for the Colombia international.
And Brown believes it might be time to let the Colombian forward leave the club.
“That happens in football,” Brown told Football Insider.
“I’ve said it many times about Morelos, where would he go? Who would take him? And what level would they be?
“With Morelos there always seems to be a little bit of uncertainty with him, so maybe it’s time.
“We’ve been saying they’ve got a good player there in Kemar Roofe straight away for starters.”
Morelos started for Rangers in their opening day victory at Aberdeen, as well as their narrow Europa League defeat to German outfit Bayer Leverkusen.
‘El Buffalo’ found the net 12 times in 26 Scottish Premiership games for Rangers during the 2019-20 campaign.
However, only one of those strikes has come in 2020.
His performances have prompted to former Premier League forward Darren Bent to brandish him a ‘menace’.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Bent said: “He can win a game on his own but if his head’s not 80 per cent right, his head’s 20 per cent missing, then he can be a real menace, if he’s not totally focused you don’t know what you’re going to get from him and he can be a bit of a hindrance.”
