Rangers Exclusive: Leon King’s transfer collapses after Wycombe fee agreed

Rangers defender Leon King’s transfer to Wycombe Wanderers has collapsed, sources have told Football Insider.

The two clubs had agreed a fee for the 21-year-old to move to the League One club.

But sources have said the move is now off after the player held talks with Wycombe.

King, who featured in Russell Martin’s first game in charge against Club Brugge last weekend, is now set to remain at Ibrox for the time being.

The Scottish giants remain open to offers for the centre-back.

Wycombe’s move for King falls through

King failed to start a single league game for Rangers in the first half of last season, and was sent out on loan to Scottish Championship side Queen’s Park in March.

The defender came through the academy at Rangers, and was viewed as one of the club’s most exciting prospects back in 2019, drawing interest from Liverpool and Chelsea.

However, he never managed to cement his place in the senior side at Ibrox and is now looking for a move away from the club.

It had looked as if Wycombe were set to land King on a permanent deal, but the transfer has fallen through.

The Chairboys were looking to strengthen their ranks after falling to a semi-final defeat in League One play-offs last season.

‘Rangers accelerate Rak-Sakyi signing plan’

Meanwhile, Rangers are reportedly considering a move to sign Crystal Palace winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi on loan with an option or obligation to buy next summer.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who claims that Rangers’ financial situation means they are unlikely to make a permanent bid at this stage.

Palace have set a £10million asking price for the 22-year-old and would prefer to cash in this summer, but are open to discussions about a potential structured deal.

Rangers are not the only club interested in Rak-Sakyi, as Brown told Football Insider that Southampton are considering opening talks with Crystal Palace.
