Rangers expert can’t believe Alfredo Morelos latest – ‘he faces life on his own’

Alan Hutton has urged Alfredo Morelos to find a new club “as soon as possible” as he remains a free agent ten weeks on from his Rangers exit.

The former Gers and Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 27-year-old “is someone who needs to be training every day” – and is now in “a real tough situation”.

Ten weeks after leaving Ibrox as a free agent, Morelos is still without a club as leagues around Europe get underway.

According to The Scotsman (31 July), Championship side Watford are weighing up a move for the Colombia international – with clubs in Saudi Arabia also believed to be interested in his services.

Morelos managed 12 goals and seven assists in 45 games across all competitions for Rangers last season.

Nevertheless, he chose to leave Ibrox for free at the end of his contract after scoring 124 goals in six years in Glasgow.

The striker often came in for criticism about his fitness and conditioning from fans and pundits alike during his time at Rangers.

When asked if Morelos could wait until January before finding a new club, he told Football Insider: “You can’t wait that long in football, especially now.

“If you miss out on pre-season, and the first games of the season – it sets you so far back.

“For someone like Morelos, it looks to me like he is someone who needs to be training every day.

“To maintain fitness, to maintain his levels – if he’s not training regularly, he struggles.

“He’ll have to consider everything, any level of football at this moment in time and get a club as soon as possible.

“He’s already missed so much football, and you can’t recreate that intensity of pre-season anyway else.

“It’s a real tough situation. He won’t be able to go in and play 90 minutes – he’ll have to do a mini pre-season on his own.”
